Managed VS Unmanaged VPS
14 January 2007Many novice users are confused should they choose managed or unmanaged VPS plan and what does it mean. Unmanaged hosting plan means that user will do configuration, additional software install, customization, maintenance and backup on its own. Managed hosting plan means that hosting provider should provide administration without additional costs which usually includes : custom configuration of users needs, installation of additional software by demand, customization of each aspect of VPS customer demand, periodical backup.
So, basically managed VPS is unmanaged VPS + administration.

It is important to define what is included in any “Managed VPS” service. Different web hosts understand “Managed” in a very different ways.
